We are very honored to be a part of the 2023 Coleman Challenge Grant, running from November 1 through December 31, 2023. The Coleman Foundation will offer a one-to-one match for each dollar raised by SCPF up to $25,000, so every contribution counts twice.
Now that we have vibrant community day service programs up and running at both our Chicago and Dolton centers, we are ready to get cooking--literally! Funds raised this year-end will go to upgrading our kitchen spaces with appliances and tools to help our consumers with kitchen skills. Learning to cook is valuable in understanding the importance of nutrition; increasing independence; boosting self-confidence; encouraging social interaction; and providing opportunities for creativity. In addition to these general benefits, learning to cook can also help adults with intellectual disabilities to develop specific skills, such as fine motor skills, following directions, problem solving, and safety. We can't wait to dig in!
